Hello, World!

One of the reasons I created this website was to have a place to blog. I've had a lot of blogs in my 23 years on the internet. My Xanga had Modest Mouse lyrics as a header. I don't recall exactly what it looked like, but I remember my Diary-X being a beautfiul emo masterpiece. And of course my LiveJournal was a repository of mortifying teenage poetry, friendship drama, and Harry Potter fanfiction.

I am still able to log in to that one, so I read through it recently. It does not need to see the light of day ever again, but other than the poetry I don't think it's that embarrassing. I have some sympathy for teenage and young adult me.

I hope to update this blog at least a few times each month. I'm not sure that I'll get as deep into the life drama as I did back in 2008. But I did really cherish having an online space to share my thoughts, and I'm excited to get back to that.

And I still think it's helpful to read about other people's lives in this type of space. We can share our innermost thoughts on social media, but I don't think the currency system of social media is very fun. Hoping for likes to boost your chances of being seen. Opening yourself to comments from people who have no skin in the game, who get gratification from tearing others down.

A personal website is less likely to be found, but those who do find it are more likely to actually be interested. And because this is hosted on Neocities, presumably anyone who engages here will have a website of their own - or at least interest in having one. They're sticking their neck out just as much, which makes any criticism more likely to be constructive.

This probably isn't coming across as very coherent. I may come back to this idea and write something more about it. But for now, I'll sign off.
